Today (September 5), nearly 30 million students and nearly 1.7 million teachers across the country officially began the new school year with a special opening ceremony. Educational institutions have organized rehearsals and carefully prepared for a solemn and meaningful opening ceremony.

Dignified, economical

Until 4 p.m. on September 4, many teachers and staff of Duc Tri Secondary School (Cau Ong Lanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) and the construction team were still busy cleaning the school yard, installing LED screens, cleaning each row of chairs, arranging seats, sweeping the school yard... to welcome students, preparing for the special opening ceremony.

Mr. Truong Quoc Hung, Principal of Duc Tri Secondary School, said that each classroom on the 2nd and 3rd floors has had its floor tiles, wall panels, aluminum doors replaced, and has been repainted to be spacious and airy for students to concentrate. "The school currently has more than 1,000 students, ensuring that while waiting for the repair items to be completed, students will still study one session directly at school and one session online," he affirmed.

A few weeks ago, Duc Tri Secondary School was one of the schools that was still in disarray before the opening ceremony because it was under construction and repair. Also located in Cau Ong Lanh Ward, Minh Duc Secondary School also completed many items, focused on cleaning the school yard to welcome students, and carefully prepared for the opening ceremony. Ms. Le Thi Thanh Giang, Principal of Minh Duc Secondary School, said that all preparations for the opening ceremony had been completed.

On September 4, reporters at many educational institutions observed that most schools had gatherings to "rehearse" for the opening ceremony, which was solemn and had special meaning.

In the 2025-2026 school year, after the merger, Ho Chi Minh City will be the locality with the largest education and training sector in the country with more than 3,500 schools, more than 2.6 million students and nearly 110,000 teachers at all levels. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has requested heads of educational institutions to review conditions, arrange space for organizing and equipment for live broadcasting of the National Opening Ceremony Program. Schools are required to coordinate with local telecommunications and television units to ensure stable signals, high-quality images and sounds; arrange audio-visual equipment to ensure enough for the entire school to attend and follow the opening ceremony program for the 2025-2026 school year.

Schools have developed detailed opening plans, ensuring safety, solemnity, economy, and suitability to the actual situation. The school's planned activities are carried out concisely, ending before 8:00 or organized after 9:30.

From 8:00 to 9:30, all delegates, teachers, students and pupils fully attended the contents of the program organized by the Ministry of Education and Training. Including performing the flag-raising ceremony, singing the national anthem at the same time as the flag-raising ceremony at the National Convention Center; listening to the speech of General Secretary To Lam ...

Journey of ambition

On the morning of September 5, along with millions of students across the country, university students simultaneously held the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 school year according to the general schedule of the education and training sector. For the new generation of students who have just left high school, this is not only an opening day but also an important milestone marking the journey of maturity, opening up new aspirations and responsibilities.

Unlike high school students, new university students enter the classroom with many emotions: happiness when admitted to their favorite major, eagerness to explore a new environment, mixed with anxiety when having to be independent and take responsibility for their choices.

Attending the admission procedure at Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of September 4, Nguyen Thi Ha Tien, a new student majoring in logistics and supply chain management, said she was very happy to be admitted to her favorite major at the school she wanted to study. "Leaving high school to enter university, I feel like I am entering another world, where everything is new, full of opportunities but also many responsibilities. This is truly the beginning for me to realize my career dream" - Tien confided.

A representative of the Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City said that in recent days, the school has been simultaneously receiving new students to complete admission procedures and preparing for the opening ceremony on the morning of September 5. As of noon on September 4, nearly 4,600 new students had completed admission procedures at the school.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Thuy, Head of Admissions and Communications Department - Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City, university life is the "golden time" for each young person to mature the fastest, dare to take on challenges, dare to correct mistakes and dare to assert themselves. Therefore, the university's opening ceremony has more meaning than a traditional ceremony: It is a reminder of the desire to learn and responsibility for the future.

This school year, the International University - VNU-HCM welcomes more than 1,800 new students out of a total of more than 10,000 students and more than 600 postgraduate students. At the opening ceremony, the school will honor the 2 valedictorians and 6 salutatorians of the recent enrollment period. After the opening ceremony, new students will have a week of civic activities at the beginning of the term, then officially enter the training program.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Law announced that starting from 8:00 a.m. on September 5, the school will broadcast the opening ceremony live according to the program of the Ministry of Education and Training. After the drum beating ceremony to start the new school year, the school will launch a series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its tradition and the 30th anniversary of being named Ho Chi Minh City University of Law. In addition, the school will also present 15,000 AI Hay Pro accounts, helping students to study more conveniently.

This year, the University of Health Sciences - VNU-HCM welcomes 1,131 new students. The new school year 2025 - 2026 marks a remarkable growth in the scale of the school, with a team of nearly 300 highly qualified personnel and the support of more than 20 end-line hospitals, creating a comprehensive training - research - clinical practice ecosystem.

"The school's mission is not only to train highly qualified medical staff, but also to build an interdisciplinary, innovative and humane academic environment, where generations of doctors, pharmacists, nurses and medical staff with rich medical skills, medical ethics and courage are formed" - Professor, Dr. Phan Bach Thang, Principal of the University of Health Sciences, expressed his confidence before the meaningful opening ceremony.

Believe education will make a strong breakthrough

Vocational education levels also held opening ceremonies on September 5.

Dr. Le Dinh Kha, Principal of Cao Thang Technical College (Sai Gon Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), said that the school was honored to be selected as one of 15 connecting points among the group of universities and colleges nationwide to participate in the live broadcast of the national opening ceremony, which took place on the morning of September 5.

Dr. Kha emphasized that this year's opening ceremony has many historical meanings for Cao Thang Technical College in particular and students nationwide in general. Currently, the preparations for the opening ceremony have been completed, ready to welcome more than 1,500 students to attend.

"For the first time, vocational education is in sync with the entire national education system in a solemn opening ceremony. This is also the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of National Education (now the Ministry of Education and Training), marking a long journey of development of the country's education system," said Dr. Kha.

According to MSc. Nguyen Thuy Vuong Khanh, Director of the Center for Communications and Admissions - Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics, the school usually organizes the opening ceremony in October. With vocational education, the enrollment and training time is flexible, so the opening ceremony is also somewhat later than that of preschool and general education. However, when all levels of education "join in the sound of the school drum to open the school year", it will make the ceremony more solemn and meaningful for students.

Dr. Tran Manh Thanh, Principal of Bach Viet Polytechnic College, happily said that this is the first time in the 80-year history of Vietnamese education that the opening ceremony has been held for all levels of education. According to Dr. Thanh, in previous years, the school's opening ceremony was often held on Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20. Currently, the school is in the process of completing its facilities, so it cannot hold the opening ceremony on September 5. Therefore, the school has prepared a letter from the President to send to students and parents.

"This year's national opening ceremony takes place in the context of the country celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2. Every street and alley across the country is filled with flags and happy smiles. I believe that these historical milestones will be a solid foundation, from which Resolution 71/2025 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development will have strong changes" - Dr. Thanh emphasized.
