Since the beginning of September, many households in the North and Central regions have been surprised by the unusually high electricity bills for August, while the weather was not too hot, there were even storms and prolonged power outages. Many people confirmed that the electricity bills for August were unusually high.
On social networking forums, many accounts commented that their electricity bills had skyrocketed by several hundred thousand dong, in some cases by 4-5 times, or recorded identical electricity bills for 2 months.
The Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) said that there was also a lot of unverified information on social networks related to the August electricity bill, causing public confusion and affecting the reputation of the electricity industry. Many contents were also copied and shared massively to attract views, increasing misunderstandings in society about the electricity sales business activities of EVN units.
The electricity unit cited that on September 4, the Quang Chinh Commune Police ( Thanh Hoa ) invited citizen CTH to work because he posted false information on his personal Facebook, claiming that the August electricity bill had increased abnormally and doubting the meter reading.

Upon verification, this household purchased electricity from Thanh Hoa Electricity Business Management Joint Stock Company, a rural electricity sales unit that is not under the direct management system of the electricity industry. Citizen CTH later admitted the mistake, corrected the information and pledged not to repeat the offense.
The electricity company confirmed that it will receive, check, and verify transparently any questions about electricity bills from people. People can contact the local electricity unit or EVNNPC customer care center to check the meter, recording schedule, and payment method.
Regarding the reason for the increase in electricity bills for many households in August despite being affected by storms, the electricity unit said that the power interruption due to the storm only occurred locally, in some localities and for a few days. Compared to the entire 30-31 day meter reading cycle, this impact is not too great.

Some areas affected by storms and floods have index recording periods from the 20th to the 25th, so the days of power interruption due to storms will be counted in the September index recording period. Therefore, most of August is still continuously hot, with high electricity consumption lasting from morning to night, especially at night when the need for cooling skyrockets.
The electricity unit said that the main reason for the increase in electricity bills in August was that the demand for electricity for cooling was much higher than in normal months, while the storm only had a local impact and did not significantly reduce electricity consumption.
