The German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) said the earthquake had an epicenter at a depth of 10km and occurred on September 13.
Meanwhile, the US Geological Survey (USGS) determined the earthquake had a magnitude of 7.4, with the epicenter at a depth of 39.5km.
There is a risk of a tsunami from the earthquake. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said "hazardous" waves could occur along the Russian coast within 300km of the epicentre.
In Japan, located southwest of the Kamchatka peninsula, no tsunami warning has been issued, according to NHK.
According to RT, the earthquake on September 13 caused local authorities to "issue a tsunami warning and put all emergency services on high alert."
Kamchatka Governor Vladimir Solodov updated: "Experts have begun inspecting important social facilities and residential buildings after strong aftershocks. All services have been put on high alert."
Although there have been no reports of serious damage so far, local officials have urged residents to remain cautious, especially along the coast.
"A tsunami threat has been declared. We ask people to be especially careful when visiting Khalaktyrsky beach and other tsunami-prone areas," the governor said.
Russia's Emergency Situations Service in Sakhalin said waves up to 0.5 metres high could hit the islands of Paramushir and Shumshu.
As of 11:30 a.m., the latest update from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) is that there is currently no tsunami risk following the earthquake.
In July, one of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded struck off the Kamchatka Peninsula, triggering a tsunami as high as 4 metres across the Pacific Ocean and forcing evacuations from Hawaii to Japan.
The magnitude 8.8 quake was the largest since 2011, when a magnitude 9.1 quake off the coast of Japan triggered a tsunami that killed more than 15,000 people.
The July earthquake prompted Japanese authorities to order nearly 2 million people to move to higher ground.
