Indigestion, persistent bloating combined with persistent abdominal pain can be a sign of ovarian cancer

The American Cancer Society says indigestion is also one of the early warning signs of ovarian cancer, especially persistent indigestion that occurs more than 12 times a month.

Older women are at higher risk of ovarian cancer than younger women. Ovarian cancer in younger women is rare and easier to treat. Research published in the International Journal of Cancer found that a high-fat diet increases the risk of ovarian cancer by up to six times.

Persistent indigestion can be a sign of ovarian cancer if accompanied by the following symptoms:

Flatulence

Women with ovarian cancer often experience bloating, which can temporarily cause the abdomen to swell to the point where clothes can no longer fit. Studies show that about 86% of women with ovarian cancer experience bloating.

Persistent abdominal pain

Ovarian cancer not only causes indigestion but also lower abdominal pain. If the abdominal pain is persistent, the cancer may have spread to the pelvis or abdomen. Patients describe the pain as feeling like someone is squeezing the pelvis with a clamp.

Another warning sign of ovarian cancer is pelvic pain during intercourse. This is caused by the cancerous tumor in the ovary pressing on the vagina.

The study, published in the journal Gynecologic Oncology, examined the symptoms of 574 ovarian cancer patients. Nearly 40% of them reported pelvic pain.

Anorexia, weight loss

In a study published in the international journal BJOG, scientists found that about 40% of women with ovarian cancer experience a loss of appetite and early fullness during meals. This loss of appetite can lead to weight loss.

However, even without anorexia, ovarian cancer can cause unexplained weight loss. Accordingly, the patient will lose 5% of body weight in 1 month without dieting or exercising. Because cancer tumors can cause the metabolism to go into overdrive, causing the body to burn more calories and causing unexplained weight loss, according to Healthline .
