In the 2025-2026 school year, the Ministry of Education and Training will hold a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Ministry of National Education (now the Ministry of Education and Training) and open the new school year on the morning of September 5 at the National Convention Center (Hanoi).

This is considered a special event in the history of the education sector when the Ministry of Education and Training will broadcast live on VTV1 channel of Vietnam Television, connecting online to all educational institutions, from kindergarten to university (public and non-public) across the country.

Important ceremonies will be held in the general program, including the flag salute and the national anthem. General Secretary To Lam will give a speech and beat the drum to open the school year.

Currently, schools and localities across the country are ready for this special opening ceremony.

According to the guidance of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, schools will arrange and assign students to attend differently depending on each grade and level. Some kindergartens and primary schools arrange for students in lower grades to attend the opening ceremony in class, watching on TV screens. Students in higher grades gather in the school yard to watch on LED screens.

At Thanh Cong B Primary School (Hanoi), Ms. Pham Minh Thao, the school principal, said that preparations for the opening ceremony had been completed. Before that, the school proactively developed a plan, prepared facilities, decorated a spacious and safe pedagogical landscape, and organized many meaningful activities to help students feel happy and comfortable entering the new school year.

"The performances have been rehearsed, the program to welcome first graders has been carefully prepared. Everything is ready for the country's big festival - the day the whole nation takes children to school," said Ms. Thao.

At Chu Van An Secondary School (Hanoi), teachers and students are also ready for the special opening ceremony in 2025. This year, the highlight of the ceremony is the parade of Grade 6 students - new faces entering the secondary school environment for the first time.

According to the plan, from 8:00 a.m. onwards, all students, teachers and parents will watch the opening ceremony live, organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, through a large LED screen placed right in the school yard.

The screen, sound and transmission systems are tested many times to ensure clear images and sounds, helping students easily join in the atmosphere of the national opening ceremony.

At Dang Tran Con Primary School (HCMC), Ms. Pham Thuy Ha - Principal of the school informed that the school's opening ceremony includes the following main contents: welcoming ceremony for Grade 1 students, art program performed by teachers and students of the school, announcement of the reason, introduction of delegates. During the ceremony, the school also launched a campaign for parents, teachers, staff and students to support people affected by floods.

"For first and second graders, because they are still young, the school has arranged for them to attend the opening ceremony online in the auditorium. The school also sent information to partners not to send flowers and congratulatory gifts, which would be wasteful, but instead to support the scholarship fund, give scholarships to students, or join hands with the school to support people affected by floods in the North Central region," Ms. Ha informed.

The official opening ceremony of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade will take place from 7:30 to 10:30 on September 5 with the participation of nearly 400 lecturers and students. Similar to the high school level, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade will organize an online connection with the opening ceremony organized by the Ministry of Education and Training.

After the nationwide opening ceremony, the school organized activities such as receiving scholarships; rewarding valedictorians, salutatorians and students with high admission scores in this year's admission season; and giving gifts to new students.

Previously, on September 3, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City issued a document requesting all educational institutions in the city to proactively limit the use of formal decoration with fresh flowers in areas such as stages, podiums, and school gates. Flowers should only be used in places that are truly necessary to create highlights, ensuring aesthetics but not being ostentatious or wasteful.

“The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training does not accept congratulatory flowers in any form from agencies, organizations, businesses, parents and individuals attending and congratulating the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 school year. Units need to proactively and widely announce this policy to partners and parents in many forms such as documents, announcements on websites, bulletin boards, and social networks,” the document clearly stated.

In addition, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City also launched a campaign to support flood victims.

In the North Central provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh, storms No. 5 and No. 6, accompanied by heavy rain and floods, occurred at the end of August, causing severe damage to many schools, causing dozens of schools to have their roofs blown off, landslides, flooding, and damaged equipment.

The provincial education sector has coordinated with local authorities to support schools in clearing rocks and soil and carrying out general cleaning. At the same time, synchronous solutions have been deployed to ensure adequate learning conditions for students, ready to enter the new school year 2025-2026.
