After a volatile morning session, the Vietnamese stock market rebounded strongly in the afternoon session of September 4, pushing the VN-Index to a new peak of 1,696.29 points, close to the 1,700-point mark - a milestone that many investors once found "hard to imagine".
At the end of the session, VN-Index increased by 14.99 points, reaching 1,696.29 points with a trading volume of more than 1.37 million shares, equivalent to nearly 39,827 billion VND. The entire floor had 195 stocks increasing in price, 130 stocks decreasing in price and 53 stocks remaining unchanged.
HNX-Index increased by 1.29 points to 283.99 points, with a trading volume of more than 114.3 million shares, equivalent to VND2,812.4 billion. The entire HNX floor had 86 stocks increasing in price, 77 stocks decreasing in price and 64 stocks remaining unchanged.
UPCOM-Index increased by 0.8 points to 111.85 points, with trading volume reaching over 77.1 million shares, equivalent to VND1,144 billion. The entire floor had 178 stocks increasing in price, 82 stocks decreasing in price and 95 stocks remaining unchanged.
Banking stocks led the increase, with MSB up 3.93%, VAB up 3.1%, VCB up 2.84%, BAB up 2.74%, NAB up 2.52%, BVB up 2.48%, ABB up 2.38%, SSB up 2.36%, TPB up 2.14%, LPB up 2.13%, along with CTG andACB maintaining green.
The steel group exploded and became the center of capital attraction: HPG increased by 6.04%, HSG increased by 6.89%, NKG increased by 6.78%, TLH increased by 6.96%, SMC increased by 3.19%, VCA increased by 3.61%, HMC increased by 0.42%.
The rally was bolstered by positive news from the Chinese market and expectations of improved domestic consumption in the second half of the year.
The securities and retail groups also increased strongly, with SSI up 2.3%, HCM up 2.95%, CTS up 4.38%; MWG up 2.24%, PNJ up 2.43%, DGW up 1.97%, FRT up 1.33%.
Foreign investors continued to net sell about VND819 billion; in which, VPB was the most net sold with VND398 billion; other large-cap stocks such as VHM, MSN, MWG, GEX were net sold with VND100-200 billion.
The trading session on September 4 ended with the VN-Index reaching a new peak of nearly 1,700 points, opening up expectations of continuing to challenge this historical milestone in the coming sessions.
