Raphinha is very sensitive about racism. |
In a furious social media post, the Brazilian star branded park staff “disgraceful” and shared a video showing two-year-old Gael being ignored.
In the clip posted on Instagram Story on September 5, several children can be seen being hugged by the squirrel mascot. Gael, wearing a red tracksuit , stands waiting with a gesture asking for a hug, but the mascot suddenly stands up and ignores him.
Another clip shows the boy patting the mascot's leg to get its attention, but still getting no response. Even when an adult carries him next to the mascot at chest level, the boy is not hugged.
“Your staff are disgraceful,” Raphinha wrote angrily. “You can’t treat a child like that. Your job is to make them happy, not to turn your back on them. I’d rather call it ‘ignoring’, to avoid using a harsher term. It’s disgraceful.”

Suggesting that the incident was racially motivated, Raphinha questioned why all the white children were hugged but not his son. He continued, “I hate you, Disneyland. All he needed was a hello and a hug. And you didn’t give it to him. That employee was terrible.” Disneyland Paris has yet to officially respond to the accusation.
Raphinha did not take his son to the park himself, as he was playing for Brazil in a World Cup qualifier. He started in the 3-0 win over Chile in the World Cup qualifier at the Maracana. Raphinha is expected to play again against Bolivia in El Alto, before returning to Barcelona to prepare for the match against Valencia.
Raphinha has long been vocal against racism. During a match in 2023, he revealed an undershirt with the words: “As long as skin color is more important than eye color, war will continue.” This was in support of his Brazilian teammate Vinicius Junior, a Real Madrid player who has been the target of racist abuse on numerous occasions.
