Rangnick was right about Garnacho

Coach Ralf Rangnick once stressed that a young midfielder like Alejandro Garnacho needs to "keep his feet on the ground" if he wants to have a successful career at MU.

Garnacho, the young talent who was given the chance to debut in the first team of MU by Rangnick, left Old Trafford to join Chelsea for a fee of 40 million pounds in the transfer window last summer. The 21-year-old midfielder was expected to shine at MU, but was removed from the squad of coach Ruben Amorim due to irreconcilable conflicts.

Before becoming a key player in the first team, Garnacho had an impressive debut in the 2021/22 season, when he was brought on in a match against Chelsea. At that time, Rangnick was the interim coach at MU and recognized Garnacho's potential very early.

In a press conference ahead of his debut, Rangnick said of Garnacho: “He has been training with the first team for the last two weeks and I know that Garnacho is one of the most promising players. He is only 17 years old, but if he stays humble and works hard to improve every day, Garnacho does not need to sit on the bench and is fully capable of playing for this club."

As Rangnick predicted, Garnacho really shined and made 144 appearances for United. However, Rangnick also emphasized that Garnacho needed to "keep his feet on the ground" if he wanted to go far in his career.

This could be one of the biggest problems of Garnacho's career at United. It seems that the midfielder received too much attention too soon and started to show signs of complacency.

For example, Garnacho’s reaction after the 2024/25 Europa League final against Tottenham was a clear example of a lack of restraint. After being left out of the final squad, Garnacho showed his attitude and had a conflict with coach Amorim.

He was again left out of the summer tour and allowed to leave. Garnacho also angered United fans by wearing Marcus Rashford's shirt at Aston Villa, as Rashford's relationship with United also became strained.

Before coming to Chelsea, Garnacho put a lot of pressure on MU to find a new destination. This midfielder was determined to play at Stamford Bridge, forcing the "Red Devils" to be at a disadvantage in the negotiation table with Chelsea.

MU won hard at home. Late on August 30, Manchester United had their first victory in the Premier League when they defeated Burnley 3-2 at Old Trafford.
