
On September 6, the General Statistics Office announced impressive figures on retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue with strong purchasing power of the people. In particular, August with the events celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, became a big boost, boosting people's consumption of goods, services and tourism to a high level.
Specifically, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in August increased by 10.6% over the same period last year and the cumulative eight-month increase was 9.4%.
August saw a surge in consumer spending, with total retail sales of goods and consumer services at current prices estimated at VND588.2 trillion, up 2.6% from July and 10.6% from the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office. This was due to the country’s major celebrations, which encouraged people to participate in entertainment, recreation, tourism and shopping.
All groups of goods and services recorded remarkable growth, such as revenue from the garment group increased by 13.7% over the same period last year, food and foodstuff increased by 12.3%, household appliances, tools and equipment increased by 10.4%, accommodation and catering services increased by 13.2%, and tourism and travel increased by 15.2%.
In the first eight months, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue reached approximately VND4.58 trillion, up 9.4% over the same period last year (higher than the 8.9% of the same period in 2024). Excluding the price factor, the actual growth rate was 7.2%.
Of which, retail sales of goods reached VND3.49 trillion, accounting for 76.3% of the total and increasing by 8.1% over the same period (of which, food and foodstuffs increased by 10.1%, cultural and educational items increased by 7.4%, clothing increased by 7.3%, household appliances, tools and equipment increased by 6.7%). Localities recording high growth rates were Da Nang (+9.4%), Can Tho (+8.6%), Hanoi (+8.2%), Ho Chi Minh City (+8.1%) and Hai Phong (+8.0%).
In addition, revenue from accommodation and catering services reached VND552.4 trillion, accounting for 12.1% of the total and increasing by 14.7%. Revenue from tourism reached VND61.2 trillion, accounting for 1.3% of the total and increasing by an impressive 20.3%. Revenue from other services reached VND469.6 trillion, accounting for 10.3% of the total and increasing by 11.9% over the same period.
