This is an inevitable direction in the context of gradually limited inner-city development space, requiring the city to expand its vision to neighboring areas and deeply integrate into the global flow.
Infrastructure paves the way for development
Recently, Da Nang has made its mark with large-scale infrastructure projects, demonstrating the aspirations of a dynamic city. A typical example is Da Nang Downtown with nearly 77 hectares, investment capital of 80,000 billion VND, converging commercial areas, cultural parks, entertainment and a 69-storey tower 408m high - expected to become a new architectural symbol along the Han River.
In parallel, the Ba Na - Suoi Mo ecological and urban complex, worth more than VND52,000 billion, is also being implemented, promising to turn Da Nang into a vibrant "entertainment capital" day and night. These projects not only increase tourism attraction but also affirm the strategic step for the city to become the service, trade and financial center of the Central region.
After more than two decades of development, the modest area has made Da Nang almost "framework" in urban, industrial and tourism planning. The expansion of development space after the merger has created a rare opportunity for the city to break through, when for the first time it fully possesses the advantages of sea - plain - mountain.
The complementarity between these spaces is almost perfect. The urban area is strong in services, logistics, and high technology. The plains and mountainous areas are rich in potential for industry, agriculture, resources, and eco-tourism and heritage. This is not only an expansion of the territory, but also a long-term development strategy, creating an integrated urban- economic model of national scale.
Mr. Nguyen Nho Khiem, Chairman of the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Da Nang City, commented: “The 1st Congress of the Da Nang City Party Committee is a historic congress. After 28 years of separation, Quang Nam and Da Nang are now back together, joining hands to build their homeland. People from urban to rural and mountainous areas all believe in the steady development of the new city. With industrial potential, infrastructure and attention to people's lives, I believe that in the next 5 years, Da Nang will have a breakthrough development, worthy of being a growth pole of the Central Highlands”.
International economic vision
A breakthrough direction identified by the congress is to research and form a Free Trade Zone and International Financial Center in Da Nang. This will be an important piece for the city to deeply integrate, attract international capital, and create momentum for the financial services, banking, insurance, and financial technology industries.
According to Mr. Ho Ky Minh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, to realize the role of the growth nucleus of the Central region, the city must focus on four pillars: planning - specific policy mechanisms - new growth model - expanding regional connectivity. In particular, infrastructure of seaports, airports, highways associated with the Free Trade Zone and the International Financial Center will create a "push" to attract multinational corporations.
“We must have a modern, open governance model that meets international standards, accompanied by competitive incentive policies. Only then will Da Nang truly become a driving force for development, spreading strongly throughout the Central region,” Mr. Ho Ky Minh emphasized.

Regional connectivity, infrastructure connection and the development of new economic models are opening up opportunities for Da Nang to comprehensively restructure its urban space. With the core of finance - logistics - high technology, along with the belt of industrial, agricultural and heritage tourism development, the city can realize its aspiration to become an integrated megacity - rich in identity, modern and integrated.
As the congress documents have determined, in the coming period, Da Nang must make the most of its geo-economic advantages, become a center of innovation, logistics, high technology, and at the same time lead the development of the entire Central Highlands. This is not only an objective requirement, but also a legitimate aspiration of a dynamic, creative city, always looking out to the sea.
