The construction of Phuoc Khanh Bridge has been restarted since early May 2025, after selecting a new contractor. The project is currently named package J3-1, undertaking the construction of the remaining volume of the previous package J3.
Previously, the Phuoc Khanh Bridge construction package was signed by VEC with the Sumitomo Mitsui - Cienco 4 consortium, starting in January 2016. However, due to problems with capital arrangement and loan agreement extension, the project had to be suspended from 2020 when it had completed more than 80% of the volume. After nearly 5 years of stagnation, the package has a new contractor to continue construction.
The joint venture of Bac Trung Nam Infrastructure Construction Joint Stock Company and Freyssinet Vietnam Company Limited won the bid to construct Phuoc Khanh Bridge, with a contract value of more than 635 billion VND, with a construction period of 450 days.
According to VTC News, at the construction site, the joint venture contractor has mobilized hundreds of engineers, workers, and many equipment and machines to urgently deploy the remaining items of the project.
The main items of package J3-1 include: main girder, bridge deck, cable-stayed system, asphalt concrete layer, lighting system, railing, median strip and bridge drainage system.
Up to now, at the main pillars P15 (Can Gio side) and P16 (Nhon Trach side), the joint venture contractor has completed the installation of the first cable-stayed cable bundle, marking an important step forward in the construction of Phuoc Khanh bridge.
According to observation, at P16 pillar (Phuoc Khanh commune, Dong Nai ), the contractor is installing steel reinforcement, preparing to pump concrete for the bridge deck and constructing beam G2.
Right at the foot of the bridge, a waterway concrete pumping station has been installed, ready to operate to bring concrete to a height of hundreds of meters, serving the construction of high-altitude items.
On both banks of Can Gio and Nhon Trach, dozens of bridge piers have been completed, currently awaiting the implementation of the next items such as asphalt paving, railing installation and lighting system.
Phuoc Khanh Bridge is one of the two largest bridges on the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, spanning the Long Tau River, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai Province. The project is designed as a cable-stayed bridge, more than 3 km long, nearly 22 m wide, with a clearance of 55 m - the highest among bridges in Vietnam.
The resumption of the Phuoc Khanh Bridge construction package is considered a key step to connecting the entire Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway. Currently, other packages on the route have been basically completed and put into operation.

Started in 2014, the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway is nearly 58 km long, passing through Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh , with an initial total investment of 31,300 billion VND, then adjusted down to 29,587 billion VND.

The expressway is designed with 4 lanes and 2 emergency lanes, with a maximum speed of 100 km/h. This is the largest expressway project in the Southern region, playing a key role in connecting the East - West South region and reducing traffic pressure in Ho Chi Minh City. However, the project has been delayed many times due to investment policy problems and lack of capital.
