In the 2024-2025 school year, the whole province has 169,281 students, of which 169,144 participate in health insurance (an increase of 13,100 students compared to the 2023-2024 school year), reaching a rate of 99.72%. The Health Insurance Fund has paid for medical examination and treatment for more than 21,000 students with a total amount of nearly 9.8 billion VND, helping many families reduce the financial burden when their children are unfortunately sick. At the same time, nearly 8.8 billion VND was allocated to schools to carry out primary health care, contributing to maintaining the effectiveness of school health activities.
Ms. Phan My Hanh, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Education and Training (GD&DT), said: In recent times, the education sector has always closely coordinated with the Social Insurance and the health sector to promote and mobilize, thanks to which the rate of students participating in health insurance is increasing. The education sector hopes to receive the cooperation and companionship of parents with educational institutions so that each student is well taken care of in terms of health, ensuring learning conditions and comprehensive development in a safe and healthy educational environment.
Accordingly, the propaganda work on health insurance policy is deployed synchronously through press agencies, visual communication, and directly at schools. Huu Lung High School is the facility with the largest number of students in the province with 52 classes, more than 2,300 students and the rate of students participating in health insurance is always 100%. Mr. Nguyen Thai Duong, the school principal, shared: In order for students to participate in health insurance, ensuring the right to medical examination and treatment, the school has organized training for teachers on knowledge and methods of propaganda to mobilize parents to participate for their children; and extracted the Charity Fund contributed by teachers, parents, and benefactors to support health insurance cards for students in especially difficult circumstances.
Along with educational institutions, the People's Committees of communes also actively cooperate with the Social Insurance agency in propagating, mobilizing, and developing health insurance for students. Mr. Ngo Van Hien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tri Le commune, said: The whole commune has 10 schools with more than 600 students, of which about 200 students are eligible to buy health insurance for their families. Determining that developing health insurance for students is an important criterion, we have mobilized the participation of organizations and villages, and at the same time mobilized philanthropists to support health insurance cards for students in especially difficult circumstances. Thanks to that, in recent years, the rate of students with health insurance in the commune has always reached 100%.
In the 2025-2026 school year, the minimum support level will increase from 30% to 50% of the tuition fee, students will only have to pay a maximum of 631,800 VND/year if they participate for 12 months. Raising the student health insurance support level from 30% to 50% shows the State's special attention to the young generation, helping parents reduce the financial burden.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tu, Zone 4, Na Duong Commune shared: Thanks to the school's propaganda, my family understands the importance of health insurance cards in protecting our children's health. Although my husband and I have low income, we still try to save some money every year to buy health insurance for our children. This year, I am very happy because the State has provided additional support, with a reduction of more than 200 thousand, so my child only needs to pay more than 600 thousand for a health insurance card for the whole year.
Aiming for the goal of 100% of students participating in health insurance in the 2025-2026 school year, the Department of Education and Training continues to require schools to seriously implement propaganda and mobilize social support to buy health insurance for students in especially difficult circumstances, ensuring that 100% of students have health insurance cards from the beginning of the school year. At the same time, improve the quality of school health care, focus on disease prevention, food safety, and psychological counseling for students, so that each student receives good health care, ensures learning conditions and develops comprehensively in a safe and healthy educational environment.
