Dak Lak requests to thoroughly handle the issue of cumbersome school uniforms

Leaders of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee requested the education sector to clarify and thoroughly handle the situation of schools making many types of cumbersome uniforms, causing waste and costing parents money.

On the afternoon of September 17, at the regular press conference organized by the People's Committee of Dak Lak province, many contents reflected by the press were informed by leaders of departments and branches.

Solve the problem of cumbersome uniform sewing

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Da - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province - responded to the information that some schools have cumbersome uniforms, including some that force students to wear up to three types of uniforms in a week (as reported by Tuoi Tre Online ).

According to Mr. Da, after receiving the information, the Department established a working group with the People's Committee of Ea Drang commune and Ly Tu Trong Primary School.

The verification results showed that the reflection was correct. Accordingly, at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year, the school planned to make a new uniform model for students. However, after receiving comments from the press and parents, the school stopped implementing it and did not carry it out as planned.

Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee Truong Cong Thai requested the Department of Education and Training to report in writing, clarify responsibilities to advise and remind other educational institutions in the area to avoid similar situations from happening again.

Previously, on August 28, Ms. Vo Thi Minh Duyen - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak - also requested to immediately rectify the cumbersome uniform situation at some schools after Tuoi Tre Online reported.

According to Ms. Duyen, wearing uniforms is to create equality and build a cultured learning environment, but it is not required every day. Students only need to wear uniforms one day a week if their parents request it.

The uniform design must be simple, stable, age-appropriate, approved by the school board and agreed upon with the parent-teacher association. Families can purchase the design themselves; the school cannot arbitrarily change or force a new one.

Advice on payment to winning teachers before September 20

Regarding the case of 6 teachers winning the lawsuit against the People's Committee of Krong Pak District (old) along with Ea Kly Secondary School and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Secondary School, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Da - Deputy Director of the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training - said that according to the verdict, these units must jointly compensate more than 1.4 billion VND, plus accrued interest and pay social insurance according to regulations. In addition, the People's Committee of the district and the 2 schools must pay more than 34 million VND in first-instance civil court fees.

"Up to now, after implementing the two-level government, Ea Kly commune has not been granted funding to pay for the above 6 teachers," Mr. Da informed.

Mr. Truong Cong Thai - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - requested the Department of Education and Training to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Home Affairs to urgently report and advise on handling methods, and send them to the Provincial People's Committee before September 20.

"The case has lasted from 2022 until now, which is too long. It needs to be resolved thoroughly to ensure the legitimate rights of teachers," Mr. Thai emphasized.

Previously, the People's Committee of Krong Pak district had reported to the province requesting permission to use the 2025 budget to execute the judgment. However, the province rejected this request because it believed that the execution was not within the scope of compensation under the Law on State Compensation Liability, and the Budget Law also did not have a suitable expenditure item.

In addition, the verdict only determined the joint responsibility between the District People's Committee and the two schools, without specifying the responsibility of each unit or individual, making the execution of the verdict difficult.

In October 2023, the People's Committee of Krong Pak district submitted a proposal to add more than 2.1 billion VND (compensation and court fees) to pay for teachers, but was not approved by the Provincial People's Committee.
