A meter-wide crack on a high hill threatens dozens of houses in Lam Dong

The crack is about 80 meters long, with some spots up to a meter wide, threatening dozens of households in Quang Hiep village (Hiep Thanh commune, Duc Trong district, Lam Dong province).
On October 9, Mr. Phan Quang Thanh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Hiep Thanh Commune (Duc Trong District, Lam Dong Province) said that the locality is continuing to monitor and closely monitor the long crack on a hill in Quang Hiep Village. Mr. Thanh said that the crack is currently about 80 meters long, threatening the safety of dozens of local households below the hill. The local government has mobilized people to evacuate, but people have no place to live so they do not leave. Therefore, when it rains heavily, the commune has to go to people's houses to mobilize them to temporarily take shelter at relatives' and acquaintances' houses.
Locals said the crack appeared in 2019 and was only about 20 meters long, but now it has extended to about 80 meters. The mouth of the crack is up to several meters wide at points, and 1-2 meters deep.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Vu Xuan Truong (42 years old, a resident of Quang Hiep village) said that the crack was located at a height of 10-40m of the pine hill, 30-100m away from the houses at the foot of the hill as the crow flies. Therefore, people are very worried every time there is heavy rain for a long time like recently.
Mr. Vu Xuan Truong pointed to the tens of meters high embankment behind the houses of the households, Mr. Truong's house is also in this area. "During the days of heavy rain, to ensure safety, I have to take my wife and children to stay with relatives temporarily," Mr. Truong said.
The crack stretches across a hill about 30 hectares wide, this area is managed by the Dai Ninh Protective Forest Management Board.
Not only is there a crack on the 30-hectare hill in Quang Hiep village, in Hiep Thanh commune there are also two other areas, Trong Minh quarry and the area near Binh Dien Fertilizer Company (Bac Hoi village) with high risk of landslides, and authorities have placed warning signs.
Trong Minh quarry area is one of the landslide risk areas in Hiep Thanh commune. This landslide risk area is about 250m long with a height of 10-30m. Therefore, Hiep Thanh commune has proposed to Duc Trong district People's Committee a plan to lower the soil load at the top of the hill, slope, prevent landslides, ensure the safety of life and property of households living in the area.
A warning sign "area at risk of landslides, be careful, be highly alert" is placed at the foot of a slope tens of meters high at Trong Minh quarry area.
