On the afternoon of July 22, Coach Kim Sang Sik announced the starting lineup of the Vietnam U23 team for the match against Cambodia U23 in the final round of Group B of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship taking place at 8:00 p.m. today in Indonesia.
Compared to the opening match, when they won 3-0 against U23 Laos, coach Kim Sang Sik made two changes to the starting lineup. Accordingly, the Korean coach brought in Xuan Bac and Viktor Le to replace Thai Son and Dinh Bac.
Thai Son did not play convincingly in the first match, and received a yellow card, so he will likely miss the semi-finals if he receives another card in the match against U23 Cambodia.
Therefore, coach Kim Sang Sik decided to put Xuan Bac in the midfield with Nguyen Van Truong, thereby strengthening the midfield. This is also the first time Xuan Bac has played in the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.
Meanwhile, Viktor Le was given the opportunity to start alongside the two remaining strikers, Quoc Viet and Khuat Van Khang. The presence of the Vietnamese-Russian player is to help coach Kim Sang Sik further perfect the attack of U23 Vietnam.
Although Dinh Bac practiced normally in the training session on the evening of July 21, coach Kim Sang Sik still wanted to let his student play as a reserve player to conserve energy for the semi-finals and at the same time check the remaining strikers.
Although he did not play well in the first match and had to leave the field after the first half, Vo Anh Quan was still trusted by Mr. Kim in the right-back position. The left-back was still Phi Hoang.
The remaining four positions are goalkeeper Trung Kien and the trio of central defenders Ly Duc (right), Hieu Minh, Nhat Minh (left).
The U23 Vietnam team only needs to draw with U23 Cambodia to win a ticket to the semi-finals as the top team in Group B. Because before that, U23 Cambodia drew 1-1 with U23 Laos.
