The Thai national team has announced the list of 23 players to gather for the international matches in June. However, coach Alexandre Polking did not call up any members of Buriram United - the current 1st Thai League team.
According to Siam Sports, Buriram United does not want to send players to the national team at this stage because the club's president wants the players to rest after a stressful season. The Thunder Castle team actually has no right to refuse, because this is an international match series in the official FIFA schedule.
However, after talking with the Buriram United board of directors, coach Alexandre Polking agreed not to call up the team's stars.
No Buriram members are expected to join the national team for the FIFA Days in June.
Siam Sports quoted a member of the Thai team: " We understand the story. Coach Polking himself is not worried about this, because there are still many players who can wear the national team shirt. In the next two friendly matches, the coach also wants to see the ability of the new players. This is also a good thing."
Last November, the President of Buriram United Club publicly criticized the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) for changing the Thai League schedule to serve the SEA Games. This made the public and fans in the land of the Golden Temple worried about conflicts between the most important and influential figures in Thai football.
After that statement, Buriram Club regularly plans foreign training for national team players whenever the Thai national team or U23 Thailand participates in regional tournaments.
In the AFF Cup 2022, Buriram United only contributed 4 players to the Thai national team: Pansa Hemviboon, Theerathon Bunmathan, Peeradon Chamratsamee, Sasalak Haiphrakhon. They kept other stars: Narubadin Weerawatnodom, Supachai Chaided, Suphanat Muaenta and Ratthanakorn Maikami in the club's squad to train in England.
At the 32nd SEA Games, Buriram United promoted Airfan Dolah - a player who was rarely used at the club - to the Thailand U22 team. Meanwhile, Suphanat was still of age to participate in the SEA Games but stayed at the club to participate in a training trip in Europe.
In the friendly matches in June, the Thai team will play two away matches against opponents Taiwan (China) and Hong Kong (China).
