General Secretary To Lam receives leader of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts Investment Fund

On the afternoon of December 10, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received General David Petraeus, co-owner of the Fund and Chairman of the Global Institute of the Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) Investment Fund.

General Secretary To Lam welcomed General David Petraeus' return to Vietnam, highly appreciated the investment results of KKR Fund, and said that the visit will open up new opportunities for KKR Fund's investment in Vietnam.

The General Secretary affirmed that the United States is Vietnam's leading economic and investment partner, acknowledging the rapid and comprehensive development of Vietnam-US relations over the past 30 years since the normalization of relations, in which economic, trade and investment cooperation continues to be the center of bilateral relations.

The General Secretary expressed his belief that with the huge opportunities and potential for trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and the United States, the Vietnam-US relationship will continue to develop strongly in the coming time, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, contributing to the overall development of the world economy.

General Secretary To Lam shared the vision and determination of the Party, State and people of Vietnam to achieve development goals, becoming a developing country with modern industry and high average income by 2030 and a developed country with high income by 2045; emphasizing that the Party and Government of Vietnam will continue to create favorable conditions, including institutional reforms, for domestic and foreign investors to invest and do business effectively in Vietnam, considering the success of enterprises as the success of Vietnam. Vietnam will continue to participate in agreements and implement bilateral trade commitments and multilateral mechanisms on trade and investment.

The General Secretary expressed his hope that foreign investors, including US investors, will continue to increase investment in Vietnam, especially in the fields of digital transformation, green transformation, renewable energy, clean energy, and climate change response.

General Secretary To Lam also asked US businesses, including KKR Fund, to continue to actively contribute to promoting bilateral cooperation, especially in economic, scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking at the meeting, General David Petraeus expressed his joy and appreciation for the development of Vietnam-US relations over the past 30 years. Mr. David Petraeus shared that KKR Fund is very optimistic about investment prospects in Vietnam; assessed that Vietnam and Southeast Asia continue to be one of the locomotives of world economic growth; Vietnam has all the strengths that investors desire such as the rule of law, strong government, security, quality of education and training.

General David Patraeus said that there are development trends in the region that also facilitate the promotion of investment and trade with Vietnam. Vietnam's priority areas are also KKR's investment focuses such as: telecommunications, green energy development, data centers, and climate change response.

General David Patraeus affirmed that KKR Fund is looking for opportunities to expand cooperation and investment in Vietnam, and pledged to continue supporting the development of Vietnam-US relations in the coming time.
