Honoring “The Tale of Kieu” in calligraphy and lotus

The verses referring to the lotus image with its subtle metaphorical value in “The Tale of Kieu” by the great poet Nguyen Du, are impressively expressed by calligraphers on the artworks displayed in “The Lotus and Kieu Cultural Space”.

The portrait of the great poet Nguyen Du made from dried lotus leaves is solemnly displayed in the "Sen and Kieu Cultural Space".

Honoring the humanistic values in the thoughts of the Great Poet Nguyen Du and the Vietnamese cultural identity in the image of the lotus flower, on the afternoon of June 9, at the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam (Hanoi), the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam in collaboration with the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Support Fund and Senhouse Vietnam Company organized a thematic exhibition "The Cultural Space of Lotus and Kieu".

The exhibition displays 32 calligraphy works, most of which depict unique verses in Nguyen Du's "Truyen Kieu", especially verses that directly mention or evoke the image of the lotus flower with subtle metaphorical value.

In particular, the exhibition space introduces a portrait of the great poet Nguyen Du made from dried lotus leaves placed in a composition, helping viewers visualize the study space of a Confucian scholar, humble yet noble.

In the exhibition space, visitors can also admire some unique handicraft works associated with the lotus image as a vivid proof that "lotus culture" has become an indispensable part of the spiritual life of Vietnamese people.

The exhibition space honors the unique cultural values of lotus, Kieu and calligraphy.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam, Chairwoman of Senhouse Vietnam Company, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Support Fund, hoped that through the "Sen and Kieu Cultural Space", Kieu culture would continue to spread in the cultural life, the unique calligraphy art of Vietnamese people as well as promote to everyone the value of "Truyen Kieu" by the great cultural figure - Great poet Nguyen Du, who left for posterity a great literary masterpiece.

Along with the exhibition, during the event, fashion designers presented a collection of ao dai with strong lotus images, creating interesting highlights and adding value to the exhibition space, attracting the attention of many visitors to the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam.

The exhibition runs until June 15, 2025.
