On August 6, Reuters reported that student protest leaders in Bangladesh have asked Parliament to be dissolved and warned of a "strict program" if their deadline demands are not met.

In a Facebook video , they demanded that the National Assembly be dissolved by 3 p.m. on August 6 (4 p.m. the same day Vietnam time), and asked “revolutionary students to be ready” if the National Assembly did not dissolve by this deadline.

Meanwhile, regarding the formation of an interim government, Bangladesh's Daily Star newspaper quoted protest leader Nahid Islam as saying: "No government other than the one proposed by students will be accepted."

According to this person, the student protest movement will not accept any military government or a military-backed government or a fascist government.

The protest leader demanded that Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin take immediate steps to restore law and order in the country, saying the composition of the interim government would be announced.

“We have decided that an interim government will be formed, with Dr Mohammad Yunus… who is widely accepted as the chief adviser,” said Mr Nahid Islam.

Noting that until a new government is formed, students need to continue taking to the streets to "protect their uprising", the leader also said that the student movement had nothing to do with the acts of violence, attacks on temples, looting and vandalism during the recent protests, which have left more than 100 people dead.

The statements came a day after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country, while the military announced it was taking over power and preparing to form an interim government.
