Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is a Hindu and has a sweet tooth, so he often fasts for 36 hours at the beginning of each week to "reboot" his body.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak recently went on television to explain his diet, after the country's media revealed that he does not eat anything from 5pm on Sunday to 5am on Tuesday every week.

During this 36-hour fast, the 43-year-old Prime Minister only drank water, tea or black coffee. This disciplined fast of Prime Minister Sunak surprised and admired many British people.

Mr Sunak said the fast was an integral part of his Hindu lifestyle and one of the ways he balanced his lifestyle. "After the fast, I can enjoy my favourite sweets for the rest of the week," he said.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak is also a teetotaler and vegan. In 2022, he revealed that he hardly eats breakfast. If he does, he eats Greek yogurt, blueberries or pastries.

He also said he was "addicted to Coca Cola", especially the Mexican product because it is made from cane sugar, instead of high-fructose corn syrup.

"The problem is that I have a sweet tooth, I eat a lot of cakes but I don't exercise as often as before because I'm busy with work. So I fast a little to restart at the beginning of the week, detox a little," he said.

Fasting has been practiced by different cultures and religions for thousands of years for various reasons. It has recently gained popularity in the dieting community, but has also been controversial.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese lost 15kg ahead of the 2022 election by giving up alcohol for three months and cutting down on carbs. "I had two boiled eggs for breakfast, which kept me going until lunch. Not snacking between meals was very important," Albanese said of his weight loss secret.
