Screening for congenital heart disease for nearly 1,000 children in Khanh Vinh commune

On July 19, at Khanh Vinh Medical Center, Khanh Hoa General Hospital in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Pediatric Cardiology and Congenital Heart Association, and the Khanh Hoa Provincial Police Youth Union organized a program to screen for congenital heart defects for free and give gifts to disadvantaged children in Khanh Vinh commune.

At the program, nearly 1,000 children in Khanh Vinh commune were screened for congenital heart defects during this period. Most of the children screened were ethnic minorities, living in poor economic conditions and had little access to quality medical services. The doctors participating in the program are a team of experienced experts in congenital heart intervention from leading hospitals, directly performing examinations and echocardiograms for screening to detect early congenital heart defects or abnormal signs related to the cardiovascular system. Through examination, the doctors discovered that 7 children had congenital heart defects; of which 6 children were assigned to undergo intervention at Khanh Hoa General Hospital, 1 severe child will be transferred to Ho Chi Minh City for intervention. In addition, the program also gave away 1,000 gifts (total value of about 200 million VND) including: Cakes, candies, teddy bears to children coming for screening.

Previously, on July 18, the program's team of doctors performed cardiovascular intervention on 13 cases at Khanh Hoa General Hospital, including 9 children and 4 adults. All cases had severe, complicated congenital heart disease.
