VnExpressVnExpress24/08/2023

Hundreds of people from around the world will travel to Loch Ness, a famous destination in Scotland, to hunt for the existence of the sea monster this weekend.

On August 26-27, members of the Loch Ness Center and volunteers will join the hunt for the Nessie monster in Loch Ness, Scotland. The popularity of this destination is closely linked to theories about the monster in the lake. The upcoming Loch Ness monster hunt is the largest in the past 50 years, according to the organizers.

The event will be live-streamed for "monster hunters" around the world to watch. Those interested in the Loch Ness monster story hope this hunt will solve the mystery that has been controversial for nearly a century.

Paul Nixon, manager of the Loch Ness Centre, said about 100 volunteers were involved in searching for signs of life on the shores of the loch, with a similar group monitoring remotely via four monitors set up around the lake. The centre is still open for online registration for volunteer positions.

Nixon said volunteers will be stationed around the lake at all times to look for any unusual activity. If there is any movement, the “monster hunters” will record it and post it to the center’s online portal.

In addition to searching from land, the team also uses drones equipped with infrared cameras and hydrophones to detect sound signals in the lake. Most of this equipment has not been used in previous searches for Nessie.

The upcoming hunt for the Loch Ness monster is considered to be the largest scale since the Loch Ness Investigation Bureau launched its research in 1972. The bureau was established in the 60s of the last century to search for giant underwater creatures.

Paul Nixon said that after the hunt ends this weekend, the Loch Ness Centre will compile the findings, analyze them and publish the results.

"We will likely have answers to many of the mysteries of the past years. Weather factors will greatly affect the observation process," Nixon said.

The monster hunts have brought tourists to Loch Ness. Hotels and restaurants near Loch Ness have reaped huge profits.

Loch Ness is one of the largest lakes in Scotland, more than 230 m deep and more than 37 km in circumference. The legend of the Loch Ness monster dates back to ancient times. The story of the monster in the lake became widely known in 1933 when the Scottish press reported a photo of a "prehistoric monster". This news sparked a series of investigations, most of which proved the photo to be a hoax.

However, the Nessie legend has brought tourism to Scotland over the years, making Loch Ness one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country.
