Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí23/03/2024

Coming to Da Lat at this time, visitors will admire the purple color of royal poinciana flowers dyeing all over the roads and street corners. This is a typical flower of Da Lat with a beauty that evokes memories and dreams, making people and tourists from all over ecstatic. The origin of the flower is also an interesting story of the people who have contributed to making this flower a "heritage" of the flower city.
When spring turns to summer, all the streets and corners of Da Lat seem to be dyed in a purple color. In addition to the famous ancient royal poinciana trees at the corners that have almost become the "heritage" of the flower city, in recent years, from the main roads or into small alleys, visitors can easily encounter the romantic purple color of royal poinciana flowers. The scientific name of the purple royal poinciana is Jacaranda Mimosifolia, a woody plant with compound leaves similar to the red royal poinciana. The tree originated in South America and then followed travelers around the world. The purple royal poinciana first appeared in Da Lat in 1962, brought back by Mr. Luong Van Sau, an agricultural engineer who graduated in France. Although it was not widely propagated at that time, the color of the flowers captivated Dr. Ha Ngoc Mai, a former officer of the Da Lat Nuclear Research Institute, so in 1995, Ms. Mai was determined to bring this plant variety from Australia to Da Lat, and successfully crossbred and propagated it. Due to the advantage of charming beauty and good shade due to tall, wide-canopied trees, on some central streets of Da Lat city, the government has also planned long streets with only purple phoenix flowers on both sides to create urban landscape highlights such as Hai Ba Trung, Tran Phu, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai streets... During the summer in Da Lat from March to May every year, visitors from all over can admire the purple phoenix flowers dyeing a dreamy sky.
