Tourists take photos at Hang village, Phu Le commune.
Ban Hang (Phu Le commune) is nestled among lush green forests, cool climate, majestic and poetic natural landscape. Here, there are 61 households with nearly 300 people, mainly Thai ethnic people. The people in the village still preserve and promote many traditional cultural values. Coming here, visitors can immerse themselves in nature, listen to the babbling of streams and stay in traditional stilt houses, enjoy folk songs and unique dances of ethnic people.
In recent times, with the attention and investment of the State, along with the propaganda and mobilization of the local government, some households in Hang village have boldly invested capital to renovate, build stilt houses, and purchase equipment to develop community tourism. Currently, Hang village has 23 households providing accommodation, food and entertainment services. The number of tourists coming to the village is increasing, creating jobs and increasing income for workers. In the first 6 months of 2025, Hang village welcomed about 3,000 visitors, of which foreign visitors accounted for about 80%.
Mr. Luong Tri Hieu, a household doing community tourism in Hang village, said: "Realizing that the village has a lot of potential and advantages to develop tourism, in 2004, my family invested in building a stilt house and renovating the campus to do community tourism. Later, the number of visitors staying at my family's house increased, so I boldly invested in building another stilt house and 4 bungalows to serve tourists. At the same time, I actively participated in training courses on tourism and food hygiene and safety to better serve the needs of tourists. Thanks to developing community tourism, my family has more income, creating jobs for many local workers with an income of 5 - 6 million VND/person/month".
Coming to Phu Le, tourists cannot help but visit the historical site of Co Phuong cave located in the heart of the rocky mountain. Co Phuong cave is built by large rocks stacked on top of each other, the deeper you go inside, the narrower the cave becomes. During the years of resistance against French colonialism, Sai village, Phu Le commune was located on the route to transport military supplies and weapons for our army to serve the Upper Laos campaign and the Dien Bien Phu campaign. Co Phuong cave was not only a military supply station but also a shelter for soldiers, youth volunteers and frontline workers. According to historical documents, at around 3:00 p.m. on April 2, 1953, French planes took turns dropping bombs on Phu Le commune, focusing on Co Phuong cave, in order to destroy military supplies and weapons, cutting off our support to the battlefield. After that bombing, the cave entrance was blocked by a large rock, causing 11 frontline workers who were taking shelter inside to die. With its historical values, in 2012, Co Phuong cave was ranked as a provincial historical relic. And in 2019, Co Phuong cave historical relic was ranked at the national level.
Coming to Phu Le, tourists can not only learn and explore the beauty of Hang village, such as: Bo Dip fish stream, Bo Muoi, Bo Khoong, Bo Kham caves; visit, sightsee, and offer incense at the national historical site of Co Phuong cave, but also immerse themselves in the cultural space of the Thai and Muong ethnic groups, and enjoy dishes imbued with the culinary culture of the local people. In particular, coming here on holidays and Tet, tourists can experience folk games and performances, such as: throwing con, cu fighting, khap thai, gongs, bu balls, panpipes... However, tourism development in Phu Le commune is still not commensurate with its potential and advantages. Floods and landslides affect the landscape of tourist areas, tourist attractions and households doing tourism; roads to tourist attractions have not been invested synchronously; many households lack capital to invest in building and renovating accommodation facilities; Behavioral culture and foreign language proficiency do not meet practical requirements; some households working in tourism do not pay attention to ensuring hygiene and environment...
Mr. Ha Van Thuy, Secretary of the Party Committee of Phu Le commune, said: Tourism development in Phu Le has achieved positive results. However, at present, the potential and advantages have not been exploited to their full potential. In the coming time, Phu Le commune will continue to promote and raise people's awareness of the importance of tourism development. Strengthen the promotion of local potential and advantages through mass media. Focus on training to improve professional skills and processing techniques to ensure food hygiene and safety for households doing tourism. Pay attention to ensuring security and safety for tourists. Promote attracting businesses and individuals to invest capital to develop tourism. Thereby, contributing to creating jobs, increasing income for people, promoting the socio-economic development of Phu Le commune.
