Comrade Nguyen Manh Quynh, Vice President and General Secretary of Vietnam Ornamental Plants Association, spoke at the workshop.

At the workshop, delegates discussed three main issues: Important bases and foundations for developing the ornamental plant economy with green, endemic products of high cultural and economic value; the current status of ornamental plant development and the perceptions and methods of operation that need to be innovated to meet the requirements of comprehensive and effective ornamental plant development; some orientations and solutions for ornamental plant development in the coming time.

According to the Vietnam Ornamental Plants Association, the whole country has over 50,000 hectares of ornamental flower and plant production. Many provinces and cities have large areas of concentrated flower and plant cultivation, associated with long-standing traditional craft villages. The potential for ornamental plant development in the whole country and many localities is very large. The demand for flowers and ornamental plants is increasing, on average from 12 - 15%/year...

Average revenue from flowers and ornamental plants is from 350 million to 2.5 billion VND/ha/year. Estimated output value is over 15,000 billion VND/year, of which export value is about 80 million USD/year.

Currently, many provinces and cities have planned and formed specialized areas and craft villages for the production and trading of ornamental plants. However, the development of flowers and ornamental plants is not commensurate with the potential and strengths.

Mr. Ngo Van Hanh, Chairman of Hai Duong Province Ornamental Plants Association, spoke at the workshop.

To develop ornamental plants into a high-value economic sector, delegates said that it is necessary to enhance the position and role of Ornamental Plant Associations at all levels. Ornamental Plant Associations need to support members in their professional activities. In particular, it is necessary to change perceptions that ornamental plants are not only a hobby but also a unique, special product with high economic value.

Promote the role of scientists, artisans, entrepreneurs, garden owners, and highly skilled workers; apply and transfer science, technology, and techniques in the production, business, care, and preservation of ornamental products.

Focus on building model, typical garden house, model, effective production and business facilities. Open up and expand the market for flower and ornamental plant products...

The Hai Duong Ornamental Plants Association has over 7,600 members. The movement of planting ornamental plants and shade trees in Hai Duong has seen many improvements in recent years. Ornamental plant production includes ornamental plants, construction plants and flowers, reaching a value of 500-600 million VND/ha/year.
