Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Hoang Giang

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Hoang Giang answered the press about this working trip of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

Could you please tell us the meaning and purpose of the working trip of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his wife to attend the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, conduct bilateral activities in Switzerland, and pay official visits to the Republic of Senegal and the Kingdom of Morocco?

Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang: At the invitation of President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Senegal El Malick Ndiaye, President of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco Rachid Talbi Alami, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Tulia Ackson and Secretary General of the IPU Martin Chungong, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, on behalf of the leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam, will pay an official visit to Senegal and Morocco, attend the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, and conduct bilateral activities in Switzerland from July 22-30, 2025.

IPU 6 is the largest conference of world parliamentarians in 2025, attracting the largest presence of parliamentarians in the world, with more than 110 parliamentarians from countries saying they will attend.

This year's conference, with the theme "A World in Turmoil: Parliamentary Cooperation and Multilateralism for Peace, Justice and Prosperity for All", reflects the common concern of the international community in the context of the current complex world situation; at the same time, it wishes to promote the important role of multilateral parliamentary diplomacy in promoting peace, cooperation and development for the benefit of people around the world, especially in planning and monitoring the implementation of policies and laws.

With these factors, it can be affirmed that the working trip of the National Assembly Chairman this time has extremely important significance both bilaterally and multilaterally, as shown in the following aspects:

Firstly, from a bilateral perspective, this is the first overseas trip of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to Switzerland, with an official visit to Morocco and Senegal. For Morocco, this is the first official visit by a key Vietnamese leader in 6 years and for Senegal since the two countries established diplomatic relations.

The working trip of the National Assembly Chairman will contribute to consolidating and further strengthening the friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between Vietnam and Senegal, Morocco and Switzerland; promoting cooperation between Vietnam and the African and European regions. At the same time, the working trip is also an opportunity for Vietnam to diversify economic and trade cooperation, promote cooperation in many fields, including parliamentary cooperation with partners Senegal, Morocco and Switzerland, attract maximum international resources to serve the country's development goals in the era of national development, and enhance the image and position of Vietnam as well as the Vietnamese National Assembly in the international arena.

Second, in order to implement the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, proactiveness, activeness in comprehensive, extensive and effective international integration of the 13th Party Congress, Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW of the Politburo on international integration in the new situation, as well as Conclusion No. 125-KL/TW of the Secretariat on strengthening the implementation of Directive No. 25-CT/TW on promoting and elevating multilateral diplomacy to 2030, the working trip of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man will contribute to strongly affirming the country's guidelines, policies and great efforts in socio-economic development, promoting multilateralism, creating momentum for demonstrating the role of a responsible member, making active and substantive contributions of Vietnam to the activities of the IPU and the UN, promoting parliamentary relations and cooperation with countries and international organizations, promoting the role and position of Vietnam and the National Assembly of Vietnam in the world. international school

In addition to directly participating in solving major international issues, we also bring to the conference Vietnam's experiences and success stories to spread and share with other countries and international organizations on consolidating and maintaining peace, stability, developing the country, strengthening foreign relations, promoting international integration, upholding international law, promoting solidarity and international cooperation, for peace, stability and prosperity for all people, all countries, regions and the whole world.

The Deputy Minister informed about the Vietnam - Senegal relationship, the Vietnam - Morocco relationship, the Vietnam - Switzerland Comprehensive Partnership and the Deputy Minister's expectations for the visit?

Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang: Vietnam has had good cooperative relations with Senegal, Morocco and Switzerland for decades.

With Senegal, since establishing diplomatic relations in 1969, the two countries have maintained good friendship and cooperation, always coordinating and supporting each other at multilateral forums such as the United Nations, the Francophone Community and the IPU... Economic cooperation has recorded positive progress in recent times. In the first 6 months of 2025, Vietnam's exports to Senegal reached nearly 60 million USD, 3 times higher than the same period in 2024.

The visit of the National Assembly Chairman will create momentum to promote the development of bilateral relations more substantially, especially in the economic field and at multilateral mechanisms, especially where Senegal plays a pivotal role, as well as relations between the two countries' parliaments.

After nearly 65 years of establishing diplomatic relations, the Vietnam-Morocco relationship has been increasingly developed in all three channels of Party diplomacy, State diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy. The two sides regularly coordinate their stances and support each other in international forums. Cooperation between the two countries' legislative bodies has developed well on both bilateral and multilateral levels. Morocco is currently Vietnam's second largest trading partner in North Africa, with bilateral trade turnover increasing steadily every year.

The visit of the National Assembly Chairman will create strong momentum for the two sides to continue promoting cooperation, especially in trade, investment, agriculture and tourism, towards the target of bilateral trade turnover reaching 500 million USD in the coming years.

Vietnam - Switzerland relations have developed positively in many fields after more than half a century of establishing diplomatic relations. In terms of trade, Switzerland is Vietnam's leading partner in the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), with trade turnover between the two countries reaching 811 million USD in 2024, and 375 million USD in the first 5 months of 2025 alone. Switzerland's investment in Vietnam currently reaches more than 2.1 billion USD, ranking 6th in Europe, 20th out of 147 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.

In January 2025, on the occasion of attending the 55th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter agreed to establish a Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries. On that basis, Vietnam and Switzerland will increase the exchange of high-level delegations and all levels; coordinate to accelerate the negotiation process of the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and EFTA, continue to expand cooperation in other areas such as education, training, science, technology, culture, tourism, climate change response, etc.

I believe that the working trip to attend the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, conduct bilateral activities in Switzerland, and visit Senegal and Morocco by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man will be successful in all aspects, leaving a good impression on the role, position, and positive and substantive contributions of Vietnam and the Vietnamese National Assembly in resolving global issues.
