At the age of 46, Manny Pacquiao (left) still proves his class as a world boxing legend. |
In the WBC welterweight title match at MGM Grand Garden Arena (Las Vegas, USA) on the morning of July 20, “PacMan” caused his opponent, 12 years younger than him - Mario Barrios - a lot of trouble thanks to his flexible movement and excellent dodging ability.
Before the match, experts were inclined to believe that Barrios would dominate with his youth and superior physical strength. However, the reality on the ring was completely opposite. In the first 3 rounds, Pacquiao dominated, attacking and defending comprehensively. He took advantage of his ability to read the situation, move around the ring to dodge attacks and counterattack with accurate jabs and right-hand punches.
From round 4, the match became balanced when Barrios exploited his long reach advantage, continuously launching powerful hooks. However, Pacquiao's cunning and perfect dodging ability made Barrios's accuracy rate not high.
In the final rounds, Barrios increased the pressure, attacking continuously to find a chance to knock down the Asian veteran. Pacquiao showed signs of fatigue but remained resilient, choosing a defensive style and launching a few dangerous counter-attacks to his opponent's face and stomach. The Filipino boxer's incredible endurance kept the audience excited.
When the fight ended after 12 rounds, the MGM Grand Garden Arena erupted with applause for Pacquiao. “Unbelievable, considering that PacMan is 46 years old,” one commentator could not hide his admiration.
In the end, the judges gave a draw - a reasonable conclusion to the evenly matched match between experience and youth. With this performance, Pacquiao continued to prove that age is just a number, but the spirit and class of a legend never fades.
