In the entire Nha Trang Bay, Hon Chong is currently the only area that retains a lot of coral, especially two important hard coral species, Acropora (branch coral) and Montipora (disc coral), which play a role in creating coral reefs for the bay.

Let’s admire the wonderful beauty of nature that nature has bestowed upon mankind through the photo series “Sea Flowers” by author Duong Le Phuc. The photo series was submitted by the author to the Photo and Video Contest “Happy Vietnam” , organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications .

Hon Chong, where a healthy coral reef is still preserved in Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa). With a rich number of over 350 species of coral, Nha Trang coral reef was once evaluated by scientists as the most important in Vietnam and the region.

Reef-building coral species play a very important role in shaping the "foundation" for building coral "urban areas" with layers and canopies for marine organisms to spawn and for larvae and juveniles to take refuge. Notably, in the three areas of Hon Chong, North Hon Chong with a coral area of 2.33ha, has a coral coverage of up to 70%, is a place with a high diversity of hard coral species that play a role in creating reefs. Today, Hon Chong is still the only relatively healthy coral "oasis" in the bay.

This beautiful landscape is not easily seen elsewhere. Therefore, the local government has also established the Hon Chong Coral Protection Cooperative Group, which is responsible for managing, protecting and conserving the coral reef, and organizing community tours to contribute to creating sustainable livelihoods for local people./.
