Bustling but no less sacred at Con Son Spring Festival

The 2024 Con Son - Kiep Bac Spring Festival will be held from February 19 to March 3 (January 10 to 23) with many highlights and new programs to practice, preserve and promote the values of national cultural heritage.

The 2024 Con Son - Kiep Bac Spring Festival will take place at the special national relic site of Con Son Pagoda (Cong Hoa Ward) and Kiep Bac Temple (Hung Dao Commune), Chi Linh City, Hai Duong Province.

The festival commemorates the 690th anniversary of the passing of the Third Patriarch of Truc Lam Huyen Quang Venerable (1334 - 2024) and announces the Prime Minister 's Decision recognizing the "Set of Three Buddha Statues of Con Son Pagoda" as a National Treasure.

This is also an opportunity to honor the outstanding values of the Relic Site during the process of Hai Duong province, together with Quang Ninh and Bac Giang provinces, completing the dossier of the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son, Kiep Bac Relic and Landscape Complex to submit to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for recognition as a world heritage site; promoting the values of the Con Son - Kiep Bac Special National Relic Site, contributing to raising the awareness and responsibility of officials and people in practicing, preserving and promoting the values of national cultural heritage.

With a scale similar to previous years, this year's ceremonial and festival activities are also standardized, in accordance with traditional rituals. The festival program includes: The opening ceremony of the Con Son - Kiep Bac Spring Festival 2024, the 690th anniversary of the death of the Third Patriarch of Truc Lam Huyen Quang Venerable (1334 - 2024) and the announcement of the Prime Minister's Decision recognizing the "Set of Three Buddha Statues of Con Son Pagoda" as a national treasure; The sacrificial ceremony on Ngu Nhac Mountain...

The 2024 Con Son - Kiep Bac Spring Festival promises to bring a vibrant, bustling but equally sacred atmosphere with the Chung cake wrapping and Day cake pounding contest; Chung cake and Day cake offering ceremony; water procession ceremony; incense offering ceremony; the 11th Hai Duong Province Fireworks Festival; wrestling competition, chess competition, etc.

Notably, this year's festival also has a Culinary Culture, Tourism and Trade Promotion Week with a total of 43 booths, including: 12 booths introducing the cuisine of Hai Duong province and regions across the country; 24 booths introducing OCOP products, tourism, traditional craft villages of Hai Duong province and 7 booths performing typical culinary performances of the three regions. There will be a promotional event honoring 3 dishes of Hai Duong province honored by the "Vietnam Culinary Culture Association" including cha ruoi, banh cuon and banh dau xanh.

In particular, this year's festival organizes for the first time the Cultural Heritage Connection Journey Cross-country Run with 3 distances: 5km, 10km and 15km.

Coming to the Con Son - Kiep Bac Spring Festival in 2024, visitors will be immersed in the beautiful natural scenery of the Con Son - Kiep Bac relic site, participate in unique rituals and folk games, and at the same time contribute to preserving and promoting the value of the national cultural heritage of the sacred Chi Linh land.

The Three Worlds Buddha statues at Con Son Pagoda date back to the Le Trung Hung period (17th century). This is a unique original artifact, of special value in relation to the style of Buddha statue making in the 17th - 18th centuries. The Three Worlds Buddha statues are also the third artifact and group of artifacts at the Con Son - Kiep Bac Relic Management Board recognized by the Prime Minister as a National Treasure (after Thanh Hu Dong Stele and Con Son Tu Phuc Tu Bi Stele).
