Become an AI Engineer While Still a Fourth Year Student
Le Van Tan, a student majoring in artificial intelligence (AI) at the University of Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City), has just graduated with honors with a GPA of 9.1/10. Not only impressive in his academic achievements, this student also made his mark by conquering his dream job with a high income as an AI engineer at OPSWAT Software Vietnam Company before receiving his diploma.
During his time at university, Tan participated in many academic competitions and real-life online projects such as: UIT Data Science Challenge, Ho Chi Minh City Artificial Intelligence Challenge (AI Challenge), RMIT GenAI and Cyber Security Hackathon... Notably, at the RMIT GenAI and Cyber Security Hackathon, a competition on solving cybersecurity problems in the process of applying large language models, Tan won second prize overall. Tan shared that the second prize of the competition helped him gain more confidence when interviewing for a job at OPSWAT Software Vietnam Company because the content of the competition was related to the company's expertise.
In addition to studying theory, Van Tan also carried out many projects to practice and consolidate the knowledge he had learned. And coincidentally, when the company opened recruitment in December last year, it was thanks to the projects that Tan used to practice after theory classes, combined with the experience from previous competitions, that helped Tan meet the recruitment criteria and get a job in the right field, becoming an AI engineer while still a fourth-year student.
"Learn only once" spirit
After graduating from university with an excellent degree and a stable job, Van Tan still cherishes the plan to continue studying for a master's degree. The new engineer said he will pursue an applied master's program. Explaining his choice, Tan confided: "I want to spend more time practicing and doing more projects to see where I need to improve, what areas I need to add more knowledge in, then I will research and learn more knowledge in those areas in graduate school."
In addition, another reason comes from the main characteristics of the field that Tan is pursuing. Tan believes that, in the field related to AI technology, engineers need to have thorough understanding and specialized knowledge to be able to do well. Therefore, Tan wants to study and work at the same time to have practical experience and at the same time improve his knowledge.
"Although it will be quite difficult, I still decided to choose this path, because I want to satisfy my passion for exploration and learning, and at the same time, I can always keep up with the rapid development and change of this industry," Tan added.
Taking the philosophy of the scientist Albert Einstein: "Anyone can know, but the important thing is to understand", as a guideline, Tan always kept the spirit of "studying only once" throughout his university years. For Van Tan, if you study, you must study thoroughly and deeply. It was this seriousness that helped Tan complete the program early and graduate with an excellent degree.
On his upcoming graduate journey, the former AI student from the University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University) said he will continue to maintain this spirit to not only conquer new knowledge, but also prepare for further steps in the future.
