On the afternoon of July 8, Can Tho City People's Committee organized a conference of tourism businesses and displayed tourism products, in celebration of the 65th anniversary of Vietnam Tourism Day (July 9, 1960 - July 9, 2025).
According to Ms. Dao Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho, in recent years, the city's tourism infrastructure has been invested and developed synchronously with the number of accommodation establishments growing impressively in quantity and quality, diverse in types, from small-scale accommodation establishments to 5-star hotels and high-class resorts serving the needs of tourists. By the end of 2024, Can Tho will have more than 640 tourist accommodation establishments, an increase of 7.1 times compared to 2004.
Many infrastructure works that play an important role in the development of the entire delta region have been built, such as: airports, ports, traffic bridge systems... contributing to connecting trade and developing tourism.
Referring to policies and solutions for Can Tho tourism, Mr. Nguyen Van Bay, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho, suggested that the City leaders survey some places that are calling for and promoting investment to grasp the situation more closely, especially in the context of merging 3 provinces. It is necessary to integrate legal documents of the 3 previous provinces on tourism development, consider submitting to the People's Council to issue the best mechanisms and policies for tourism development in the new Can Tho City.
"We are committed to creating the best conditions for the City's tourism businesses, closely coordinating with departments, communes and wards in promoting tourism development, as well as advising the City on effective policies," said Mr. Bay.

Speaking at the conference, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairwoman of Can Tho City People's Committee, said that Can Tho is the center of the Mekong Delta region, with a strategic location, convenient transportation and a rich tourism ecosystem, from river tourism, garden tourism, floating markets, MICE, cuisine, historical culture, to traditional craft villages; diverse types of trade services, cuisine and entertainment, contributing to the strong development of the city's tourism.
According to incomplete statistics, in the first 6 months of 2025, Can Tho welcomed more than 6.3 million visitors, over 2.7 million guests stayed, and revenue reached nearly 5,450 billion VND.
"The tourism development linkage between Can Tho and other provinces in the region with Ho Chi Minh City has not been as expected, there is still a situation of each person doing their own thing. Tourism products, such as tourism gifts, OCOP products need to be coordinated with the industry and trade sector, the agricultural sector to introduce, promote and exchange. We also need to pay attention to brands that are truly developing sustainably," Ms. Ngoc Diep stated.
From the perspective of a travel company, Ms. Le Dinh Minh Thy, Director of Vietravel Can Tho branch, said that through tourism stimulus programs implemented synchronously in the Vietravel system, the results after the first 6 months of the year recorded 16,222 visitors to the West (an increase of 127% over the same period in 2024), with revenue reaching 43.7 billion VND (an increase of 144% over the same period).
The above data shows that the tourism market in the West in general and Can Tho in particular always has great appeal. The Western inter-route product is always in the top of the most favorite products of tourists when choosing products in the domestic market.
Analyzing more deeply into the details between the number of visitors and revenue, Ms. Minh Thy acknowledged that it can be seen that the West, including Can Tho, is always in the group of markets that attract a large number of visitors, but the revenue contribution rate is not commensurate.
"Although the tour route in the West is at the top, the cost of a tour product in the West is still low. This proves why the number of visitors to the West is in the top 6, but when calculating revenue, the route to the West falls out of the top 10," said Ms. Minh Thy.
