iOS 26 tightens security, children must ask permission to text

Apple launched a new feature in iOS 26 that forces children to ask their parents' permission before texting unknown numbers, increasing protection for children from online risks.

iOS 26 adds a “Communication Limits” feature that helps parents control who their children are allowed to contact.

Children will have to submit an approval request when they want to text or call a new phone number.

Parents can consent directly in the Messages app with a confirmation audio recording.

This feature is part of the “Child Accounts” management system that Apple has deployed synchronously across multiple platforms.

Apple also introduced more detailed app ratings by age, divided into 13+, 16+, and 18+.

Parents can hide inappropriate apps on the App Store and enable the “Ask to Buy” feature for control.

The Communication Safety tool will also intervene if nudity is detected in a FaceTime video call.

The new measures come as US states step up laws to protect children online.
