On the afternoon of September 23, one day before the "Ox Racing Festival at Ro Pagoda" in An Cu Commune, Tinh Bien Town, An Giang Province, monks and many Buddhists were busy completing the final stages for the festival to be held tomorrow morning (September 24).
This year, the Ro Pagoda Bull Racing Festival has 26 pairs of bulls from Tinh Bien town and Tri Ton district, competing in a direct draw. The biggest prize is up to 10 million VND.
Monk Chau Oanh Na dug the ground to plant stakes to hang Buddhist flags to decorate around the racetrack area.

For local Khmer people, the Ro Pagoda Bull Racing Festival has become a special cultural event before the sacred Sen Dolta festival.
According to Khmer people's belief, the pair of oxen of whichever commune wins the highest prize will bring that commune much joy and luck and signal a bountiful harvest.
The abbot of Ro Chau Soc Khonl Pagoda said, "This is a traditional festival of the pagoda that has been maintained for many years. Every year, on the occasion of Sene Dolta, the pagoda coordinates with the People's Committee of Tinh Bien town to organize a traditional, healthy and useful playground for Buddhists."
Some Buddhists also came to clean the temple grounds in preparation for the festival to be held tomorrow.
