The fruit is smaller than the usual plum, but Pu Nhi stands out with its deep red color, crunchy taste, and rich sweetness, so even though it is in season, the selling price is still nearly 200,000 VND per kg.
Ms. Hanh - owner of a fruit shop in Binh Thanh District (HCMC) - said that this was the first time she posted a sale for Pu Nhi plums but she had already closed nearly 150 orders (each order was 1-5 kg). "The price of this type is 3 times higher than the usual plum, which is more than 150,000 VND per kg, but it is very attractive to customers," Ms. Hanh said.
Similarly, Ms. Lan, the owner of a fruit shop on Quang Trung Street (Go Vap) said that she has sold 4 batches of Pu Nhi plums with a quantity of up to 1.1 tons and all of them have had regular customers come back to order in large quantities. "This type is only available for a month, they ripen faster than normal plums," Ms. Lan shared.

Speaking to VnExpress, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Huyen, Director of Mia Fruit, said that this plum is quite small but has the outstanding feature of being sweet, not sour, with eye-catching dark red flesh, peelable seeds and crunchy.
"Each kilogram is currently being sold at 190,000 VND by the store, but the quantity of imported goods is small and not enough to meet customer demand," said Ms. Huyen.
According to traders, this plum is grown in Pu Nhi mountain (Song Ma, Son La). This is an area with high mountains, good soil, hot and humid climate of the Northwest region. When ripe, the outside skin is purple, the inside flesh is dark red, not astringent and has a unique flavor compared to other regions.
The Economic and Infrastructure Department of Song Ma district said that the area for growing Pu Nhi plums compared to regular plums only accounts for 1% (about 15 hectares), so the total output of the region only reaches a few tons.
The harvest time of this plum only lasts 20 days and is not always available in every season, so the price is often expensive and difficult to find compared to regular plums.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Son La, the province's plum growing area is more than 12,300 hectares, with this year's output of nearly 90,000 tons, with the harvest season from April to July. "Son La Plum" has been granted a Certificate of Trademark Registration since 2021 with a number of high-quality products, such as Pu Nhi Plum (Song Ma); Ruby Plum (Moc Chau District) and Phieng Khoai Plum (Yen Chau District).
In the market, in addition to the above brands, other common plums are priced at 35,000-100,000 VND per kilogram. Compared to last year, this year's plums are of higher quality but 10% cheaper.
