Recently, the Prime Minister issued Directive No. 20 on urgent tasks to address environmental pollution. The Directive requires Hanoi to implement solutions to ban gasoline-powered motorbikes from circulating in the Ring Road 1 area from July 1, 2026.
This change has caused many candidates who are preparing to apply for the automotive engineering program to start worrying. Candidates are afraid that they will not be able to find a job after graduating from university or that the training program is no longer suitable for the future context.
For many years, the Center for Human Resources and Labor Market Forecasting of Ho Chi Minh City has included automobile engineering in the list of "hot" industries in terms of labor demand.
Sharing about this issue, Dr. Tran Thanh Thuong, Head of Admissions and Student Affairs Department - Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, said that the automobile engineering technology major provides in-depth knowledge and practical skills in technology, engineering design, control, assembly, maintenance, and repair of automobiles, as well as knowledge of management, business, and automobile engineering services.
During the course, students not only master the operating principles of engines, gearboxes, brake systems, suspension systems, and electrical and electronic systems of gasoline vehicles, but also learn the operating principles and practice on electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, automatic driving systems, and intelligent control.
"With the shift to green, smart and automated technology, this field of study will certainly bring many career development opportunities, especially attractive income levels. Gasoline cars may be out of date, but car training is still a trending field of study" - Dr. Thuong affirmed.
MSc. Truong Quang Tri, Deputy Head of Student Affairs Department - Nguyen Tat Thanh University, said that the training program in automobile engineering technology at the school has expanded in recent years, suitable for sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation solutions.
In addition to learning with gasoline vehicles, students also practice on real electric vehicle models and are equipped with the ability to research and develop optimal solutions for the electric vehicle industry; program software to control driver assistance systems, electric motors and energy management systems.
"In recent years, the benchmark for the automotive engineering technology industry has been quite high. Candidates can register for a few additional wishes such as mechanical engineering, electrical - electronics or mechatronics to increase their chances of being admitted to the school. In case they want to open their own garage, students should learn more about marketing and business management" - Master Tri suggested.
Graduates can become experts, engineers, technical staff, managers, planners, and business people at automobile manufacturing and assembly plants, road vehicle inspection centers, research, design, and manufacturing companies for auto parts and control systems, or in automobile maintenance, repair, and trading businesses.
In addition, students can work in the field of traffic engineering management, research or teaching at universities, colleges and vocational training institutions.
