According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , coffee exports in January 2025 reached 140,000 tons. This output decreased sharply by more than 40% but was "overwhelming" with the value of 763 million USD, up 5%.

Key reason: coffee prices in January reached around 5,450 USD/ton, up more than 78% compared to the same period in 2024.

Meanwhile, in January, fruit and vegetable exports reached 400 million USD, and seafood exports reached 750 million USD. The figure of 763 million USD far surpassed the two "solid" agricultural export products and became the second highest export turnover item in the agricultural sector, after wood and wood products (1.4 billion USD).

Explaining the increase in coffee prices, according to market records in early 2025, world coffee prices have shown signs of recovery as supply from the two main producing countries, Brazil and Vietnam, has limited sales.

This expectation is based on the regular increase after the harvest season (end of January), the following months the world depends on Vietnam's supply.

On February 9, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Nguyen Hung Cuong (a coffee purchasing enterprise in Pleiku City, Gia Lai Province) commented that the world and Vietnamese coffee markets are very vibrant.

Despite challenges, especially climate change, there is confidence that global coffee consumption will continue to grow, creating the premise for export businesses to continue to win big...

"Over the past years, Vietnam has become the world's number 1 supplier of robusta coffee because in Vietnam, robusta accounts for 90% of the coffee area, so with the current price trend, from farmers to businesses, everyone expects the coffee price to reach 150,000 VND/kg, or even higher," said Mr. Cuong.

Also according to the record, the domestic coffee price market on February 9 is currently trading at 128,500 - 129,500 VND/kg. The domestic coffee market fell sharply, closing the weekend trading session in red, but this commodity has increased for the 4th consecutive week.

Global coffee consumption to increase to 168 million bags in 2025

According to the US Department of Agriculture, Vietnam's coffee exports are expected to increase by 1.8 million bags in 2025, to 24.4 million bags.

Meanwhile, global coffee consumption is expected to increase by 5.1 million bags, reaching more than 168 million bags in 2025. This increase will mainly come from the EU, the US, and China.
