In June 2023, while being an excellent student at Phu Binh High School, Thai Nguyen province, student Truong Huy Bach was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (blood cancer) when he went to the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion. Although he was very sad and disappointed, with the encouragement and care of his family, Huy Bach embarked on a journey to fight the terrible cancer.

Since childhood, Huy Bach has been an intelligent student with a special passion for Math, Physics, and Chemistry. During nearly a year of treatment at the Department of Emergency Resuscitation, Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion with 4 chemotherapy sessions, despite having to postpone a year of school, Bach still did not stop studying right on his hospital bed. Huy Bach said that every time he solved problems or did exercises, he felt excited and had more motivation to forget the pain and fatigue caused by chemotherapy.

After the exam results were out, Bach went to the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion to thank the doctors and nurses of the Emergency Resuscitation Department.

Master Phan Thi Thuy Trang, Department of Emergency Resuscitation, Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion shared: “Normally, patients receiving chemotherapy are very tired, many people are so tired that they cannot eat or drink, but Bach can get up in the morning to receive chemotherapy, I have seen him sitting up to study. The doctors and nurses at the Institute are all impressed with Bach because of his diligence and great desire to learn.

“I am very grateful to the doctors and nurses at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion for helping me overcome the most difficult period when I was studying for the university entrance exam. Before, I never thought that I could continue studying and taking exams with cancer, but the advancement of science and the dedication of the doctors and nurses have helped me achieve my dream. Especially during the treatment process, I always had my family, teachers and friends by my side, giving me motivation and hope,” Huy Bach confided.

With a special love for studying, Huy Bach always proactively plans to review and solve problems. In 2023, when he was in grade 11, he had to put his school year on hold because he had to go to the Institute frequently. At the Institute, he continued to study by himself to keep up with the progress of his peers.

Due to poor health, Huy Bach cannot study much even though he is very eager to learn, so he always tries to listen and remember well in class. When he has time, he asks his high school teachers to explain more. For Math, he takes online courses with a teacher on Facebook. As for Physics and Chemistry, he only studies in class and self-studys at home.

Before being diagnosed with the disease, Truong Huy Bach was an excellent student at Phu Binh High School, winning third prize in 10th grade and second prize in Chemistry in 11th grade at the Thai Nguyen Provincial Excellent Student Competition. After being treated for the disease and returning to school, he maintained his form and continued to "reap" achievements at the provincial excellent student competition, winning third prize in Chemistry in 12th grade.

Ms. Tran Linh (teacher at Phu Binh High School, Thai Nguyen Province) said: “Bach took the exam in 2025, the first year of taking the exam under the new program. Although he only studied the new program starting from the second semester of grade 12, thanks to his diligence and efforts, Bach caught up very quickly. When the exam results came out, he thanked himself, but I felt I had to thank him. Thank you to the students who fueled the teachers' persistent journey with the profession. Thank you for trying and not giving up.”

With a total score of 28, Truong Huy Bach's scores for the A00 subjects are respectively Math: 9; Physics: 9.25; Chemistry: 9.75; he wishes to study at the Faculty of Mathematics, Hanoi National University of Education.

“My dream is to become a Math teacher. I feel that I am suitable for teaching and want to research and learn more about Math,” Huy Bach confided.

28 points of the national high school exam is not only a process of studying and reviewing but also a battle to regain life. The love of family, the dedication of doctors and nurses, and the passion for knowledge have become wings, supporting student Truong Huy Bach to reach a bright future.
