Inter-regional highway for new Lam Dong province

Speaking at a working session with the Standing Committees of the Provincial Party Committees of Binh Thuan, Lam Dong and Dak Nong provinces on June 9, General Secretary To Lam emphasized the importance of transport infrastructure in socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security after the formation of the new Lam Dong province. The General Secretary requested to speed up expressway projects, especially the Nha Trang - Lien Khuong route and the Dak Nong - Lam Dong - Binh Thuan connection route before 2030.

The General Secretary's directive, along with the proposal of the leaders of the three provinces to upgrade National Highways 27 and 28 with a total cost of about 7,700 billion VND and renovate the Phan Thiet - Di Linh - Gia Nghia section (4,900 billion VND), has added to the joy and expectation of the people at this time about the development of the new Lam Dong province. Because, looking at the bigger picture, in a country that is changing strongly thanks to traffic infrastructure, where expressways are opening up new development spaces, shortening travel time, the fact that the three provinces of Binh Thuan , Lam Dong and Dak Nong have not yet formed a connecting expressway is a paradox that cannot be prolonged.

The existing roads connecting the three provinces of Binh Thuan - Lam Dong - Dak Nong are National Highways 28 and 55.

In reality, traffic between Binh Thuan, Lam Dong and Dak Nong is currently both lacking and weak, because of the "old" roads, leading to the centers of the three provinces seemingly being separated. It is not difficult to imagine that, when wanting to go from Phan Thiet to Bao Loc, Gia Nghia, Da Lat or vice versa to the sea, people still have to spend hours going through narrow, winding roads. The consequence is that tourists are discouraged, goods cannot circulate quickly, and logistics costs increase many times. Meanwhile, development cannot rely solely on the internal strength of each province but requires regional connectivity, for which a modern highway can be completely... the solution. Especially, for Lam Dong - where Da Lat is becoming a new administrative center, the highway will be the "flesh and blood" connection to help the flower city rise to the level of a true regional center.

It is undeniable that building the expressway will require a large amount of resources, due to the unique terrain of the three provinces, but the price to pay for the delay and long delay may be even greater: It is falling behind. And more importantly, it is the long-standing desire and aspiration of the people in the region. A highway, a trade route, is the key to opening the door to economic integration, but above all, it is also a clear message about sustainable development, improving people's lives, so that no one is left behind.

When the expressway is completed, there will be a strong connection between three important economic centers: Phan Thiet, Da Lat and Gia Nghia.

As General Secretary To Lam directed: “Lam Dong province (new) must urgently rebuild the master plan for socio-economic development based on an open space structure, connecting three ecological regions: Highlands - midlands - coast, creating a unified and synchronous development entity. In particular, it is necessary to form an East-West strategic development axis connecting the Central Highlands and the coast. This axis not only opens up development space connecting the Central Highlands to the East Sea with key economic, financial, scientific and technological centers in the south, but is also a strategic corridor connecting key areas, of great significance to national defense, security, and protection of the western border of the Fatherland”.

With the above direction, the investment in the expressway connecting the three provinces is not only a transportation solution, but also a strategic development decision of the General Secretary for the new Lam Dong province. Therefore, it is time for the support of the central ministries, branches, localities and the entire political system to take action with a spirit of determination, urgency, synchronization and the highest responsibility to turn the General Secretary's vision and the people's expectations into reality soon.
