On July 18, the leader of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center said that the unit had just received an official dispatch from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism regarding the plan to restore the national treasure, the Nguyen Dynasty throne.
The document was signed and issued by Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong. According to the ministry's assessment, the plan to restore the Nguyen Dynasty throne developed by Hue City was seriously implemented and had complete content.
However, to ensure scientific and legality, the ministry proposes to adjust some important contents.
Specifically, the plan needs to be updated based on the 2024 Law on Cultural Heritage instead of the old versions.
The restoration goal must be clearly defined as "returning the object to its most similar state" compared to the time of preparing the treasure recognition dossier in 2015, without including the cause of damage in this content.
The Ministry also requested clarification of the condition of the artifacts before and after being damaged, supplementing the proposed restoration plan, implementation process, as well as assessing possible risks and safety conditions during the restoration process. Post-restoration preservation work must comply with current national standards.
Regarding implementation, the plan will only be approved by the Hue City People's Committee after receiving official comments from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Regarding the professional council, in addition to the list of members, the Hue City Department of Culture and Sports needs to advise the Hue City People's Committee to clearly define the tasks and powers of this council.
In addition, the ministry also proposed that Hue City add an appendix of photo documents of the Nguyen Dynasty throne through the ages, a detailed description of each damaged item, estimates and implementation progress.
The Nguyen Dynasty throne is one of the unique symbols of the Hue Imperial Palace, recognized as a national treasure in 2015.
The throne was broken by a tourist visiting Thai Hoa Palace on May 24, who climbed over the fence, sat on it, and broke its armrest, causing a stir in public opinion. The restoration of the Nguyen Dynasty throne is currently receiving special attention from the public and researchers.
