Blue Beetle is the latest entry from the DC cinematic universe, marking the big screen debut of Teen Titans member Blue Beetle.
In the context of superhero works in recent times not achieving great success, expectations for the brand new superhero Blue Beetle are not too great.
The film’s production team is also new to the familiar team of other DC productions. However, this seemingly “modest” foundation helps Blue Beetle shine much brighter than expected.
Comparing Blue Beetle to other superhero movies, IGN Movies writer Alyssa Mora said: “The fast-paced, funny, and heartfelt nature of Blue Beetle makes it stand out from the crowd of superhero movies out there.”
Meanwhile, David Rooney of the Hollywood Reporter commented: "The director and screenwriter don't exactly break the mold, but they bring to the genre a respectable favor and retro elements that have seemed to disappear in recent years. That makes Blue Beetle a breath of fresh air at the moment."
Right from the release of the first trailers, Blue Beetle made the audience extremely excited with the transformation and weapon creation segments of the superhero trainee, making the audience somewhat think of other famous works such as Kamen Rider Gatack... The film's cast, especially Xolo Mariduena, received critical acclaim. David Gonzalez of The Cinematic Reel called his performance “the makings of a future superstar.” Courtney Howard of Fresh Fiction wrote: “Mariduena's performance is both emotionally rich and charming, balancing the lighthearted and the vulnerable, creating a deep connection with the character.”
It is impossible not to mention Blue Beetle 's unique Mexican identity, which is subtly portrayed in the film. Gonzalez of The Cinematic Reel commented: "As a Latino, the film made me wide-eyed in surprise at how elegantly the spirit of Mexican families is portrayed on screen."
“It's a rare opportunity to celebrate a special part of the Latino community, and that makes Jaime's superhero journey all the more poignant,” added Entertainment Weekly's Machado.

Blue Beetle will be shown in theaters from August 18 in 2D, IMAX 2D, and 4DX formats.
