Previously, at 4:50 a.m. on July 18, the Ia Nan Border Guard Station Patrol Team coordinated with the Special Task Force of the Provincial Border Guard Command, Ia Nan Commune Police, and the Economic Department of Gia Lai Provincial Police to conduct an ambush patrol on the border and discovered two subjects driving a motorbike with license plates: 81B2-655.53; 81B1-566.47, transporting 4 sacks and 2 plastic bags from the other side of the border to Vietnam.

The patrol team signaled to stop and check, and discovered that each vehicle was carrying 60 boxes of paper (suspected to be firecrackers). They quickly investigated Tran Van Kha, 34 years old, permanent resident of Ia Mut village, Ia Dom commune, Gia Lai province, and Tran Van Truong, 38 years old, permanent resident of Ia Nhu village, Ia Nan commune, Gia Lai province. The two subjects confessed to using a motorbike to transport 120 boxes of firecrackers, weighing 211kg, purchased from a Cambodian (name unknown), with the intention of buying them back to Vietnam to sell for profit.

On the evening of July 18, the task force conducted an emergency search of the residence of the two subjects above, discovering at Tran Van Truong's residence a white plastic bag containing white crystalline substance (Truong admitted it was drugs). The patrol team proceeded to make a record of the arrest of the offender, the vehicle, and the evidence, bringing them to the police station and coordinating with the authorities to continue the investigation and handling.

When the results of the drug appraisal are available, a decision will be made to initiate criminal proceedings and complete the handover procedures to PC03 and PC04 Departments, Gia Lai Provincial Police to handle the investigation of the case according to their authority.
